It's Time to Blow Up the Celtics

At 14-12, the Celtics would make the playoffs if the season ended today.  But make no mistake, the Celtics will not be raising Banner 18 to the rafters this year.  I say we blow them up right now.

I would rather endure a rebuilding year than have the Celtics make the playoffs only to get mauled by Chicago or Miami in the first round.

Let's face it, the Celtics are old.  It's time for Danny Ainge to trade away the Big Three and bring some young legs to Causeway Street.

How old are the Celtics?  Kevin Garnett's Social Security number is 1.celtics

Ray Allen is 36 years old.  Garnett is 35.  Paul Pierce is 34.  Jermaine O'Neal is 33.  They were great players but so was Tommy Heinsohn, and I don't want to see him at the broadcast table lacing up the Chuck Taylors to go in and defend LeBron.

Ray Allen was the fifth pick of the 1996 NBA Draft.  Remember 1996?  That was the year the Unabomber was arrested.  Bill Clinton and Al Gore ran for president against Bob Dole and Jack Kemp.  Jerry Maguire was playing at your local movie theater.  Takes you back, doesn't it?

Paul Pierce is the only Celtic who will be playing in the All-Star Game this year, as a reserve.  The times they are a-changin'.

Pierce, Garnett, and Allen have nothing to be ashamed of.  They brought a championship to this city, but basketball is a young man's game.  The truth is that in 2012, the Blake Griffins and Jeremy Lins of the world are the future of the NBA.

Last night the Celtics lost to the feeble Toronto Raptors by a score of 86-74.  Doc Rivers did his best Bobby Knight impression, calling a time out and publically going postal on his team.

For the sake of future Celtic fans and for the sake of Doc's blood pressure, Danny Ainge should blow up the team right here.
